August 22, 2003, Newsletter Issue #151: When Good Food Goes Bad

Tip of the Week

How Do You Know When Food Goes Bad?

You may think that food that`s unsafe to eat either smells bad or has an odd color. But that`s not necessarily the case.

Harmful bacteria can grow without any visible sign. Even cooked food left at room temperature for more than two hours can develop harmful levels of bacteria.

And when frozen food is thawed, any microbes already there will be reactivated. Only thorough cooking can destroy them.
