Follow these early detection guidelines for the best results for prostate cancer testing: Have a digital rectal examination every year after the age of 50. (If you are an African-American male or you have a family history of prostate cancer, have this examination every year after age 40.) Have a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test. Eat a low fat diet. See your doctor immediately if you notice any of the warning signs of prostate problems.
